Emission Factor methodology validation with Regrow

CASE STUDYSCOPE 3

As land-sector emissions accounting comes under increasing regulatory and stakeholder scrutiny, companies can no longer afford to build climate programs on unvalidated data. For agricultural value chains, where emissions sources are complex, geographically variable, and difficult to measure, the credibility of underlying methodology matters enormously.

This is why Regrow partnered with SustainCERT to independently validate the Emission Factor methodology at the heart of its Agriculture Resilience Platform. SustainCERT’s limited assurance validation of the methodology’s design confirms its alignment with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the draft of the Land Sector and Removals Guidance (LSRG). The result: a pre-validated, audit-ready foundation that gives Regrow’s customers confidence to move from pilots to scalable climate programs.

Read on to learn more about the validated Emission Factor methodology, the challenges validation addresses, and the benefits it can pass down in the value chain.

About Regrow and the validation scope

Regrow powers agriculture resilience for leading retailers, CPGs, processors, and farmers globally. Through its Agriculture Resilience Platform, Regrow helps companies measure, manage, and reduce agricultural emissions, support the adoption of regenerative practices, and adapt supply chains to climate risk, combining advanced science, remote sensing, and scalable data systems to deliver credible Scope 3 emissions and removals accounting aligned with global standards.

SustainCERT conducted an independent, rigorous validation of Regrow’s Emission Factor methodology design and accounting logic, confirming it does not deviate from GHG Protocol requirements for emissions or removals. The validation covered corn, soy and wheat in the continental US. The same methodology underpins Regrow’s Sustainability Insights platform across 30+ crops across key geographies worldwide.

The challenge: credibility at scale

As land-sector emissions accounting evolves, companies face growing scrutiny around the credibility, consistency, and auditability of Scope 3 emissions and removal claims.

For Regrow and its customers, the core challenge was ensuring that a rigorous, science-based methodology could withstand third-party review while remaining scalable across different crops, geographies, and supply chain structures.

A further complication: many companies are caught in a cycle of fragmented assurance, repeatedly validating individual program outputs rather than relying on a pre-reviewed, standards-aligned methodology. This creates unnecessary costs, delay, and inconsistency across value chains.

Through the validation with SustainCERT, Regrow aimed to:

  • Reduce the friction, time, and cost for customers seeking assurance on their emissions data
  • Increase confidence for companies designing climate programs that include removals
  • Enable smoother pathways to audit and verification as corporate reporting requirements tighten
  • Confirm alignment of its methodology with leading global standards including the draft LSRG

What validation delivers in practice

The primary value of third-party validation is trust — and trust, once established, compounds across the value chain.

For Regrow's customers, the alignment with GHG Protocol standards means they are building climate programs on a methodologically sound, audit-ready foundation, without needing to consider the underlying methodology each time they seek assurance.

When multiple value chain partners invest in shared programs, they need confidence in the data underpinning their claims. A pre-validated methodology creates a common reference point, reduces uncertainty, and allows partners to move forward collaboratively rather than debating methodology. By validating upfront, the industry can act faster and with greater consistency.

“SustainCERT’s validation gives companies confidence that Regrow can underpin high-integrity climate claims. This pre-validated methodology streamlines the path to assurance, accelerates trust, and demonstrates scientific rigor. This is especially important now, as removals become a critical lever for managing climate risk.”

— Katelyn Winkler, Policy and Programs Protocol Manager at Regrow.

Build your climate program on validated foundations

Third-party validation of your emissions methodology is no longer a nice-to-have — as reporting requirements tighten and stakeholder scrutiny increases, it is becoming a prerequisite for credible climate claims.

SustainCERT's Emission Factor validation and verification services ensure that your Scope 3 data is accurate, reliable, and aligned with GHG accounting standards. Whether you are designing a new agricultural emissions program or seeking to strengthen an existing one, we can help you build on a foundation that is ready for audit.
