SustainCERT acts as a VVB under Gold Standard’s DMRV pilot program

Gold Standard’s ongoing pilot program aims to integrate Digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (DMRV) solutions into the standard’s certification framework. SustainCERT provides validation and verification services under the pilot program, and can validate participating DMRV systems according to the pilot rules and requirements. As part of this work, we can provide full issuance and interim track verifications.

Running until October 2026, the pilot program assesses the potential of digital technologies to enhance the accuracy, transparency, and efficiency of monitoring and reporting for carbon credits and verified impacts under Gold Standard for the Global Goals (GS4GG). Following the launch of a new digital SDG tool in 2024, this develops the Gold Standard offering towards an integrated end-to-end digital system.

About the DMRV pilot program

The pilot program aims to assess the effectiveness of DMRV solutions in real-world contexts by allowing GS4GG projects to integrate them into their operations. The pilot program serves as a learning platform to inform the development of future guidelines and requirements for DMRV solutions, paving the way for more efficient systems for issuing carbon credits and certified impact.

Gold Standard intends to integrate successfully piloted DMRV solutions and their associated projects into broader applications post-pilot, contingent on applicability criteria such as compliance with future requirements and continuous monitoring and improvement.

The program is open to GS4GG projects that have achieved at least “listed” status and employ DMRV solutions. The technology used should be mature, offer potential for accelerated deployment, and represent a significant portion of certified project types.

Why DMRV?

Verification is the trust layer of carbon markets. Yet monitoring and verification processes remain largely manual—often document-heavy, time-consuming, and difficult to scale as project portfolios and data volumes grow.

As carbon markets grow and scrutiny increases, scalable digital infrastructure will be essential to maintaining integrity while expanding impact. SustainCERT is actively developing DMRV solutions in collaboration with carbon market standards to strengthen the trust foundations of carbon markets.
